A few days ago when I gave birth to my pretty baby girl, I started to
read again the book of Genesis. Bereshith is its first word in Hebrew
which means “in the beginning”. Reading the first chapters during these times is
very symbolic for me and my husband. New baby. New life. Truly it is a new beginning for us. A new
chapter has unfolded right before our very eyes.
Picturing in my mind the creation gives me a sense of holy pride. I am
proud to have been created by God and to have been entrusted with much. I take
pride in being my Lord’s. I am in awe for being allowed to be the mum of two
beautiful creations – my children.
It makes me shiver to read about the pain of childbirth after the fall. I know the struggle, I know the
pain. I know the feeling of wanting contractions to end. But I praise God
because in the same way that God gives mercy and grace from the very beginning
and in the beginning, I experienced rivers of mercy and joy and comfort while
giving birth and after.
My almost two-year old son was named Zachary because we love the
meaning of the name. It means God remembers. We named our second, our new
princess, River because there was a time when every daily devotions, I would
read about rivers. And now, despite the many challenges and struggles we faced
before and during her birth, God’s rivers of mercy, joy, and blessings are
overflowing in our lives. It’s just so wonderful. I feel like somehow at one
point in my life I am able to walk in the Garden of Eden with my
God.
It is indeed a new beginning for me and my family. I am now a mum of
two. My husband, oh my sweet loving handsome husband is starting to work soon in
another company, leaving behind his current position which is actually his dream
job. We are on a home-place-hunt. We are on a good-helper-hunt. And more. Oh
what a new beginning! But we maintain that joy and supernatural strength that
comes from the Lord. We are in perfect health and we are well provided for. What
more can I ask for?
I appreciate the fact that every time I wake up in the morning, God’s
faithfulness is new. And every morning is a new beginning. And every story that
will start can be started by the phrase “in the beginning”… bereshith.
