This day is extra special for me and my husband because it is our very first Leap Year with our baby Zachary who is not even a year old yet. For us parents, every 'first' is special and important and therefore should be memorable.
"It's the Leap Year miracle again" I thought when I woke up. Every time it's February 29, I would feel amazed, and I mean really really amazed! I don't know about you but I grew up thinking that February 29 is just a simple addition to the calendar of a Leap Year. I never cared about how it affects the solar year or those scientific explanations concerning it. But I always thought that this simple addition to the calendar is as special as Christmas or my birthday. Upon internalizing the science concerning Leap Year, I began to be even more grateful.
How did Leap year come about? Let us see this explanation from: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/leapyear1.html "The Gregorian calendar, which now serves as the standard calendar for civil use throughout the world, has both common years and leap years. A common year has 365 days and a leap year 366 days, with the extra, or intercalary, day designated as February 29. A leap year occurs every four years to help synchronize the calendar year with the solar year, or the length of time it takes the earth to complete its orbit about the sun, which is about 365¼ days."
God is truly amazing, right? In order for balance to be attained in the days of the Earth He created, there has to be one extra day that must occur every four years. And that extra day is not an accident.
This day is not an accident. We have one extra day this 2012. I said I rejoice in this day. All because I feel God's love intensely. He gave me extra day to enjoy my family - my husband and baby. He gave one extra day to do some things I am not able to do anymore. And whether it will happen today or any day within 2012, I know somehow God provided this extra day to do at least one of these:
- reach out to people
- touch one person's life
- have an additional day for a vacation
- make up with someone I might hurt
- bond with friends
- rest and have quality/quantity time with my family
- preach the gospel
- visit a friend/relative
- food trip
- have an extended Valentines day
- say thank you to someone
- say sorry to someone
Maybe there are some more to be done. But tonight my husband will cook something very special. And we will take a picture with our baby so we can put it in his portfolio. Then maybe watch one of our favorite movies - the comedy Leap Year. It's celebration time!
And there’s a right season for everything. But today, it is the day that the Lord has made. So I will rejoice and be glad in it.
It’s Leap Year! I feel God's overwhelming love! Amidst all the trials in our lives, there's always something to be thankful for. W-O-W! It’s a miracle! Be grateful!
