What’s in it for me?
There was a time when age matters so much to me. Like it’s a big deal.
Really, believe me.
There was a time when if someone asks me my age, I’d compute by going
back to the year I was born. I think I just came to a point when I just don’t
know my age or maybe I just don’t care anymore. Not until I celebrated my
birthday this year. 2013! What’s in it for me?
Honestly, I feel old. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean it to be in a
negative way. There were a lot of times when I remarked “Oh no! I’m
turning three-zero!” And others would say “Hello, I’m older than you so please
stop complaining.” But I guess I’m really not complaining. I guess I’m just
shocked or maybe amazed that I am really getting older. I feel like a teenage
girl in an adult body and mind and soul.
I am so grateful to be thirty. It’s a milestone! I thank God for those
years. I'm grateful for the:
30 years as a daughter
3 years as a wife
2 years as a mom
You know how they say that life
begins at 40? I don’t know how true that is. I haven’t been there yet. But
as for me, I think it starts at thirty. Well, you could argue with me of course.
It’s a matter of perspective and vantage points.
Age still matters to me. Not that I don’t like aging. The more I grow
older, the more I want to grow up. And this is why I love being
30:
Jesus started His ministry at 30.
A priest begins his ministry at the prescribed age of 30. (See the book
of Numbers)
Joseph began serving the king of Egypt at 30. (Gen
41:46)
David reigned in Judah at 30. (2 Samuel 5:4)
Thirty! What’s in it for me? A lot of great things ahead. It’s a time
to continue to do the will of God for me, out of me, and through me. It’s a new
platform. It’s a new season; a new beginning. It’s like another era to be and
continue to be of great worth – be a servant leader of God, be an intentional
wife and mum, be a loving daughter, be a caring neighbor, be a good ambassador
of Christ in this untamed world, and be the woman after God’s own heart. It’s
again another start and another season to be me. I’m proud to be
thirty!
